BATHROOM REMODEL OVERVIEW
The goal of this remodel was to take an 80’s bathroom into this century, but still maintain a classic and traditional design aesthetic. We kept the footprint the same, but removed soffits over the vanity and a partial wall in the shower to let additional light in.
We also replaced the drop in tub and tub deck with an elegant, freestanding tub. The use of tile accent walls creates greater interest in both the tub and vanity areas, and using the recessed medicine cabinets as mirrors gave this client additional storage they lacked. Overall, the space is elegant and classic and functional as well.

BATHROOM DESIGN OBJECTIVES
MODERNIZE THE SPACE
Transform the unused tub to an elegant retreat the clients would actually use We created a beautiful backdrop using a artisan subway tile and traditional chair rail. The tile feature not only added visual interest, but it provides protection for the wall behind the new freestanding tub.
UPGRADE THE STYLING
Keep in style with the traditional aesthetic of the rest of the house. Simple, classic touches in the chrome finishes, traditional plumbing fixtures, and simple tile selections such as the marble hexagon backsplash, ground the space and kept the design classic. This will be a timeless design the clients can enjoy for years to come.
IMPROVE THE STORAGE
Improve storage at vanity, including recessed medicine cabinets. Added a drawer bank in the middle of the vanity and brought the depth out slightly gave good separation between the sinks and increased storage volume. The dual recessed medicine cabinets also provide seamless hidden storage for day to day needs getting ready.
BRIGHTEN THE SPACE
Taking that full height wall to a half wall with glass and moving some electrical paid off big time in the shower. The ability for the natural light to flood the space in there was all that was needed to make a cramped shower feel open and airy.
BEFORE THE BATHROOM REMODEL

Looking at this bathroom in comparison to the rest of this client’s home, the basic builder-grade finishes did not suit the elevated, traditional style they wanted for the space. The cabinetry had poor storage and wasn’t comfort height which made getting ready challenging.
There was nothing that wowed you or stood out about the space. The soffit felt heavy and dated over the sinks, as did the tub and tub deck in the shower area. The natural light was lost in the shower that was entirely too closed off by the full height wall near the entry. The space was not working for the client and while the changes to the walls was minor, they had a big impact in the end.
BATHROOM DESIGN CONCEPT

DURING THE BATHROOM REMODEL

Painting a GreenGuard barrier over the Durorock in the shower adds an extra layer of moisture barrier and gives homeowners peace of mind that the substrate won’t absorb moisture or mildew.
Framing in for recessed medicine cabinets is sometimes not as easy as expected. There can be hidden mechanicals in the walls that need to be moved in order to accommodate a recessed installation. We lucked out on this job and there was nothing behind the walls that hindered the design.
We did have to keep in mind, however, how the door swing interacted with the sconces we selected. We found the perfect sconce with just the right dimensions to fit into our layout.
