KITCHEN REMODELING IN LONG GROVE, IL

For this kitchen remodeling project in Long Grove, we started with a basic builder grade kitchen that lacked character. The overall footprint was fairly functional, but the style far from aligned with our clients taste and vision.

Being tucked in the back corner of the home with only a couple small corner windows, this kitchen felt dark and in desperate need of some light.

We achieved this by adding extra daylight and with materials that were light and bright. The new kitchen might still be tucked in the back corner of the home, but it now feels sunny and welcoming.

LONG GROVE KITCHEN REMODEL OBJECTIVES

BRIGHTEN UP THE KITCHEN

We closed off two small corner windows and replaced them with one large central window that overlooked the backyard.

UPDATE THE KITCHEN CABINETRY

We swapped dark cabinetry and countertops with bright white cabinets and countertops contrasted with light stained cabinets and floors

DESIGN A FUNCTIONAL KITCHEN

We didn’t reinvent the existing floor plan, but made a few tweaks that really changed the flow and function of this space. Moving the sink, omitting double ovens and replacing with a slide in range, and adding an abundance of floor to ceiling cabinets made all the difference!

LONG GROVE KITCHEN DESIGN CONCEPT

The overall concept of this kitchen was to create a space that feels more open, bright and current, while still maximizing function and usability.

Closing off two corner windows and replacing them with one large window was the biggest change and made the biggest impact. This allowed for a larger, more centralized sink that overlooked the beautiful backyard. We emphasized this wall with beautiful natural stone tile to the ceiling accented with minimalist wall sconces and a siligrant gray apron front sink.

We carried the same tile behind the range, flanked with custom countertop cabinets and an oversized range hood. Every cabinet was designed with a purpose to include an abundance of storage and function.

All materials selected were soft and neutral, yet warm and bright. The kitchen remodel achieves everything our clients asked for and more!

BEFORE THE LONG GROVE KITCHEN REMODEL

The existing kitchen had dark cabinets and was lacking in light. A corner sink wasn’t very functional, and a small pantry lacked storage. We also had a tight area that created a lot of chaos as one person would try to get to the refrigerator, another to the pantry and still another to the oven. With some small improvements, this kitchen could be brighter and much more functional!

Demolition went fairly quick on this one since we didn’t have any walls or soffits to remove. We did however remove two corner windows in order to replace them with one large window that was more centralized to the kitchen.

We also reworked all the electric, strategically planning where electrical outlets would go, including inside appliances and cabinets that would be intended for a charging station. Plumbing was reworked to accommodate our new apron sink centered beneath the new window.

Minimal drywall work was needed to get walls into a good condition for cabinet install. Prior to cabinet install, we had the existing hardwood sanded and finished. After installing our base cabinets, we were able to have our countertops fabricated and then complete the rest of our cabinet installation, which included several countertop hutches and appliance garages.

A tile backsplash, cabinet hardware and decorative sconces were the final details that pulled the space together.
