Our clients Andrew and Elisabeth came to us with their lifelong dreams of remodeling their Riverwoods kitchen. A project they had been putting off for too long. They were finally ready to tackle the kitchen remodel and enjoy their home the way they always wanted to. The main goal for their home was to open up the kitchen to the main living areas of the home. That way they can all gather as a family and enjoy each others company comfortably.

Open up walls to create a larger kitchen with countertop seating and open to the living areas. Convert the unused living room to a family room. The existing sunken family room could be used for a guest bedroom or office space with the ability.
Be able to have space for more than one person in the kitchen at a time. Avoid obstacles so that their son who uses a wheelchair can get around the kitchen easily.
Capture more natural light by opening walls. Better view to the backyard so Elisabeth can enjoy looking at her garden from the interior.
The existing kitchen was obviously dated and in need of updating, but more so the space was crowded and not functional for their lifestyle. All of the major appliances were so close that they were constantly bumping in to each other while in the kitchen together.
Also their son, who is wheel chair bound had a hard time getting around the current tight floor space. The room off of the kitchen that was being used as a family room was dark and off the beaten path.
The largest room in their home was the living room and it wasn’t even being used. They really wanted to have all major areas of the home to flow and function together.
Our clients have a timeless and traditional style. They wanted to enjoy this kitchen for the long haul and not tire of any selections. We removed the old tile floor in the kitchen and created a seamless look with continuing the hardwood flooring throughout. All of the hardwood was then refinished throughout the first floor.
They chose mostly white cabinets, with a soft painted gray color to add interest to the peninsula. The peninsula also features a beautiful glass cabinet from countertop to ceiling with a nice textured glass and wood interior to bring back the texture and match the hood and floating shelves. We installed a beautiful softly curved wood hood with a warm neutral brown wood valance.
We tied this wood texture into the floating shelving in the corner for decorative accents and a coffee nook. The decorative hand painted marble mosaic behind the range and hood added a lot of visual interest and a traditional feel, while keeping the rest of the backsplash a classic white subway tile. We added brushed gold hardware and fixtures to add warmth to the kitchen.
