KITCHEN REMODEL OVERVIEW

Our clients purchased their home in Hawthorne Woods knowing they would need to remodel the kitchen to accommodate their growing family.

They wanted the new space to be stylish, but more than anything wanted a maintenance free kitchen that would be easy to upkeep. So we opted for a full height quartz backsplash that makes cleanup a breeze. We also incorporated a  porcelain tile floor with epoxy grout that is almost impossible to stain.

Our client loves to bake with her children, so we wanted to incorporate an island. Even know the space was limited, the island would be perfect for baking and food prep, and for gathering at the end of a long day.

Lastly, we designed the kitchen with function in mind by utilizing pull out spice racks and speciality drawers systems with integrated cutlery dividers.

KITCHEN DESIGN OBJECTIVES

IMPROVE THE STYLING

The existing kitchen was dark and dated. We wanted to create a stylish new kitchen that would represent our youthful clients.

IMPROVE THE FUNCTION

The old kitchen was less than ideal to work in. We helped improve the function of the kitchen with details like roll trays, oversized drawers, built in cutlery centers, and pull out spice racks.

BRIGHTEN THE SPACE

We wanted the new space to be light and bright. We removed all of the old remnants of the dark Oak cabinetry and trim and brought in bright white cabinetry, counters and trims to help brighten the kitchen.

BEFORE THE KITCHEN REMODEL

The existing kitchen was builder grade Oak cabinets that had seen better days. The flooring was neutral but outdated. The peninsula made the kitchen feel closed off and impeded the walkway. As you can you see this kitchen was in desperate need of a remodel.

With the kitchen being somewhat small we wanted to White painted cabinetry to brighten and enlarge the space. The dark island helps add drama and contrast against the clean white counters and cabinetry.

As you can see in the kitchen renderings, we initially planned on installing a tiled backsplash. However, we opted to go with a full height quartz backsplash for the clean style and low maintenance.

Here you can see the floor being prepped with new Durock underlayment just before the tile goes in. We screwed and glued down the Durorock to ensure the new floor would have a solid foundation that has no squeaky areas.

Once the floor was installed we moved onto the cabinet installation. At this stage you can see the cabinetry installed and we are waiting for our counters to arrive. While we await our counters we will start working on the crown molding and cabinet hardware.
